| The Southern Maryland Convention weekend kicked off this year on Saturday, April 25th with the 79th Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association (SMVFA) Convention. At the SMVFA Installation of Officers, RVFD Past President Charlie Bradburn was installed as the SMVFA 2nd Vice President. During the Awards Ceremony, we received several awards:
• SMVFA Hall of Fame: Past President Matthew Ridgell • Fire Prevention Year-round: Class IV (2nd place) • Fire Prevention: Special Project (1st place) • Roland B. Duke Memorial Leg Trophy (Best Overall Fire Prevention) • Frank R. Cotrufo, Jr. Memorial Safety Leadership Award: Incident Safety Officer Darius Hawkins • Citizen Life Saving Award: Chief Bradley Cooper
On Sunday, April 26th, RVFD members took Command 4, Command 4A, Tanker 4, Engine 41, Rescue/Engine 42 (Squad 4), Engine 43, Brush 4, Marine Support Unit (MSU) 4, Raft 4, UTV 4, Utility 4, and a Fire Prevention Trailer to the SMVFA Parade on Solomons Island. We brought home trophies for:
Best Appearing Overall Company in the Association Best Appearing Command Unit Best Appearing Rapid Responder Unit Best Appearing Rescue Engine 2nd Best Appearing Tanker 2nd Best Appearing Fire Prevention Entry Company with Most Uniformed Personnel Best Appearing Mascot (Ember the Dalmatian) Kids Award – Little Miss Fire Prevention (Cheyenne Collentro)
