Engine 43 to California Working Fire

By Firefighter / EMT-B David Morris
August 5, 2010

At 1641, the Fightin' Four was alerted for the working fire box at 45821 Circle Drive, in California. Fireboard began taking calls that a home was on fire at that address. At the time, units from Companies 9, 3, and 7 were all en route to another house fire when the call was taken. Fireboard redirected Engines 32 and 72.
Engine 32 was first on the scene reporting heavy smoke throughout the house, and that they were dropping a line at the entrance of Circle Drive. Engine 72 arrived immediately behind Engine 32, completed a split lay from the drop to a hydrant. The crew from 72 then took a backup line to the rear of the house where heavy fire was present.
Engine 43 (Capt. Raley) made the response with six firefighters three minutes after the dispatch. When Engine 43 arrived on scene, their task was to complete pulling ceilings in the upstairs of the house and extinguish any hot spots remaining. After spending a half hour on the second floor and knocking out the remaining hot spots, the crew came out and began breaking down hose that was laid in. As this was being completed, heavy rain and lightning forced firefighters to get back on their apparatus until it passed. Once the storm passed, operations were resumed. Shortly after this, Engine 43 went in service and returned to quarters.
