The Ridge Volunteer Fire Department was invited to bring the Fire Prevention Trailer to the Waldorf Co. 12 Open House. It was a beautiful day for the long drive and traffic not bad. Upon our arrival, we were met by our host, Life Member Ryan Jacobs who gave us a tour of their facilities and introduced us to all. Station 12 is one of the busier Co.s' in Charles County and they have a small number of live ins, that they rely on to get the trucks on the road. I was very impressed with their CAD system that Charles Co. uses. Especially the features of the monitors and the button on the pager that lets the station know which firefighters are enroute to the fire house. We set up the trailer and gave presentations throughout the day. They provided a bouncing inflatable for the kids. We also were introduced to Freddie the Fire Truck, a remote unit that is operated by anonymous member and really entertains the kids. They demonstrated a simulated auto wreck, auto fire and storage fire. Trooper 7 gave a helicopter landing site. Refreshments and all types of safety and fire prevention materials were provided.
Members attending the event were: Life members James Raley, Peggy Vallandingham, Snooky Raley, Auxiliary member Mary Wise and Associate member Frieda Franklin and Firefighter George Franklin.
