The Ridge Volunteer Fire Department's Fire Prevention team was invited to bring the Fire Prevention trailer to the annual "Month of the Military Child" event. We participated along with PAX River Fire Department , the military police and base security unit. We setrup at the NEX store. Our hostess was Chrisie Smock. The sun was out all day, windy and chilly to begin with and changing to a nice spring day about noon. The above units were on display inside and outside the store. SPARKY and McGRUFF circulated throughout the day and SPARKY was the star of the show. Children who visited tthe trailer made use of our new "911 simulator", operated by Frieda Franklin. They also were treated to Safety related DVDs and given the chance to practice crawling on hands and kees through the smoke filled simulated bedroom fire. A simulated smoke machine and trash can fire, smoke detector, a heated door and operative window and a escape ladder were used to make it a more realistic experience. They also left with a bag of safety handouts.
RidgeVFD members attending were: James Raley, Joe Cooper, Mary Raley, Peggy Vallandingham, Mary Wise, Frieda Franklin, Karen Raley Quinton Ridgell and George Franklin.
