Columbus Day Crash Sends Two to Trauma Center

4-02 Box, 15:12 - Ridge VFD was dispatched to the intersection of Mattapany Road and Three Notch Road for a reported serious motor vehicle accident. Shortly after dispatch Captain Ray Mercure arrived on the scene and advised there were two subjects pinned in a vehicle and there were a total of four victims all together. Engine 32 responded from a nearby location and began extrication. With the efforts of Ridge, Bay District and NAS Pax River firefighters, both patients were extricated within minutes. Crews from Engine 43 set up a landing zone in the roadway adjacent to the crash site for two MSP aircrafts (Trooper 7 & Trooper 2) to land. Both patients were flown to PG Shock Trauma Center with life threatening injuries. The third occupant of the vehicle was transported to St. Mary's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle refused treatment on the scene. Units cleared at 16:40.
