Recently, our department, along with mutual aid from NDWFD Webster Field and Bay District VFD, responded to a call for an electrical burning odor in the residence. After thoroughly searching the house, including the attic and crawl space, crews discovered a melted charger cable that had started to burn into the carpet. Fortunately, the issue was discovered before a fire broke out.

Damaged or low-quality phone charger cords can become a serious fire hazard. Frayed wires, cracked insulation, and bent connectors can overheat, spark, or short out — potentially igniting nearby items like bedding, paper, or clothing.

✅ Inspect cords regularly for damage
✅ Use manufacturer-approved or safety-certified chargers
❌ Avoid charging devices on beds, couches, or carpeted areas
❌ Unplug chargers when not in use

Small actions can prevent big emergencies. Stay safe!
