| Each year the Ladies Auxiliary to the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman's Association (LA-SMVFA) Fire Prevention Committee sponsors a Fire Prevention Contest in conjunction with the Ladies Auxiliary to the Maryland State Fireman's Association (LA-MSFA) Fire Prevention Committee. This year the contest was for the creation of a Fire Prevention logo or message that could be used on a T-Shirt. Our members worked for several days creating contest entries. A total of six entries were submitted on April 4th at the LA-SMVFA meeting.
At the LA-SMVFA Installation of Officer's Banquet held on May 9th at the Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department in Avenue, MD the Southern Maryland contest winners were announced and were as follows:
3rd place - Ridge VFD - Darlene Wood - Pay Attention to Fire Prevention Bear
2nd place - Ridge VFD - Aggie Owens - Pay Attention to Fire Prevention
1st place - Ridge VFD - Glema Balta - Watch What You Heat
All six entries will now continue on to compete at the LA-MSFA State Level. The winners will be announced at the Convention in Ocean City in June. Good Luck everyone! A special Thank You to Christy Ridgell in her efforts in helping to prepare the contest entries.
We would also like to congratulate Becky Wathen who was installed as the 2nd Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman's Association. Becky's duties this year will have her being the liaison between the LA-SMVFA and SMVFA organizations. Congratulations Becky!! |
