On 7/16, shortly after 1900, a heavy storm pushed it's way through part of the first due. The heaviest part of the storm hit the Lexington Park area. At 1916, Engine 44 (Capt. Raley) was alerted to Willows Rd (3-08 box) for the reported house struck by lightning. Chief 4B (Mercure) was in the area and also responded on the call. Engine 33 and Chief 4B arrived with nothing evident. Chief 4B then advised there was no fire, but a light smoke in the attic that needed to be investigated. Units searched the house for a source, but found none. With that, the box was scaled back to hold Engine 33 only.
While on the previous call, Brush 4 (FF/EMT Morris) was dispatched to assist Brush 3 (Chief 3 Gould) on a tree down at the intersection of Hermanville Road and Three Notch Road (3-09 box). While responding, Engine 44 diverted after being placed in service. Engine 44 arrived on scene and assisted with a bit of removal and placed Brush 4 in service as they were arriving on scene. Friday ended without further incident.
At about 0915 on 7/17, while a few members were doing clean up work on the lounge renovation project and some were in the kitchen preparing food, the Fightin' Four was alerted to fill in Company 3's quarters, while they were on a working commercial building fire. Engine 44 (Lt. Langford) marked up but was placed in service shortly after due to Engine 72 re-routing from the scene to the fill in.
Later that afternoon, shortly after doing a bit of clean up on Engine 43, the fill in assignment was once again alerted to Company 3's quarters. This time, units were battling a working trailer fire in the Lord Calvert Trailer Park. Engine 44 (Chief 4B Mercure) marked up shortly after with a full crew of six. Soon after arriving at Company 3, Engine 44 was placed back in service. Saturday ended without further incident.
Early Sunday morning, the Fightin' Four was once again alerted to fill in at Company 3. Units were in Hollywood battling a stubborn barn fire that was fully involved. Engine 44 (Capt. Keister) responded shortly after. Shortly after arriving at Company 3, area box 3-04 was alerted on Indian Bridge Road for another working barn fire. Engine 44 went en route at the dispatch with six. Engine 61 was en route to Company 7 to fill in at the time and was in the area. Engine 91, Engine 63, Truck 3, Safety 3A (Johnson), Chiefs 3A (Evans) & 3B (Wahrenbrock) and Ambulance 496 also responded on the call. Engine 61 was first on the scene advising smoke showing from the roof of an old barn. Engine 44 arrived immediately behind them. After crews investigated, it was determined that a small fire was intentionally started inside the barn and requested a fire marshal. Engine 61 held themselves and Engine 44 only and returned the balance. Engine 44 returned to service after the fire was extinguished and Engine 61 stood by for the fire marshal. After returning, Engine 44 stayed at Company 3 for another hour before being released.
Later that afternoon, Rescue box 4-02 was alerted in the area of Back Door Rd for the motor vehicle accident, single vehicle overturned with people trapped inside. Rescue Engine 42 (Engineer Hafner), Engine 43 (Chief 4B Mercure), Engine 141, Squad 3, Chief 3, Ambulances 497 and 398 were all responding. Chief 3 was first arriving advising of a single vehicle overturned with atleast three occupants. All occupants were out of the vehicle and appeared to be refusing medical treatment. Chief 3 requested to hold the box with Rescue Engine 42 and Ambulance 497. The box was held with that and other units started to return to service. After backing in quarters, Ambulance 497 requested three additional ambulances to the scene for subjects that wanted to go to the hospital.
At 0011 on 7/19, Boat 4 (Capt. Keister) and Command 4 (Chief 4B Mercure) were alerted to the area of 'St. Jerome's Point' on St Jerome's Creek for the reported boat in distress. Boat 6 also made the response. After launching, Fireboard advised all units that the Coast Guard had received a call from a vessel who was reportedly in distress approximately two hours ago. At the time of the call, a storm was passing through the area with rain and wind. The Coast Guard did not launch a vessel and instead alerted Fireboard. After searching for approximately an hour and a half, Boat 6 located the subject at the end of Rodo Beach Road. The lone occupant advised he was OK and did not need assistance. With that, the assignment was canceled and units returned to service.
