| For ten weeks, the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department assisted the Camp Brown staff once a week with a bon fire for one of their daily activities. We arrive with Brush 4 before dusk and prepare for a bon fire.
The kids are brought their by their mentors and are well behaved. We keep them at a safe distance and light off the fire. The group starts off singing camp songs. After it gets good and dark, a counselor
begins to tell them a story about Ole Man Klutch. It is a very scary story and takes place during the Civil War. It supposedly happened right on the very spot of the camp. After the activity is completed and the scarred kids have stampeded back to their cabins, we put the fire out and are very careful to avoid a rekindeling.
The crew on the first visit was made up of Fire fighters Joe Raley, David Morris, Karen Raley and George Franklin. |
