As part of our fire prevention education techniques, we routinely go to the two schools in our first due and conduct fire prevention and fire drills. Fire drills keep both teachers and students fresh, while giving some of our firefighters insight about how these commercial buildings are laid out and how classrooms change from year to year.

Around 0930, Utility 4 took a trip over to the rectory basement at St. Michael's Church to teach fire prevention to the younger kids that cannot take part in the fire drill that the older kids take part in. During this brief session, Deputy Chief Ray Mercure and Fire Prevention Chairman George Franklin taught the children about fire alarms and how to safely escape in the event of a fire.

Shortly after, they proceeded to St. Michael's School across the parking lot to conduct the full scale fire drill. Engine 44 (Life Member J Cooper) responded from quarters after the building was safely evacuated. A speedlay was pulled upon arrival, just as it would be in the event of an actual emergency. This taught the kids why having a meeting place a safe distance from the building is in their best interest. After a quick flowing of our deck gun to the delightment of the children, units packed up and returned to quarters.
