By Assistant Fire Chief Edward (Eddie) Raley
June 28, 2020

4-01 Box, 12:51 - Ridge units were dispatched to the area of 18640 Rosecroft Road in St. Mary's City for the reported field fire.
Chief 4 arrived on location and advised he had approximately 2 acres burning in a wheat field. Due to wind and dry conditions, the fire was spreading quickly. Several mutual aid companies were dispatched to assist. The fire jumped Rosecroft Road and had spread across a field towards several residents located on Bauer Road. Units quickly responded to that area as well as Kittamaquund Lane to protect homes as the fire crested the hedges. Several units put a stop on the fire in very hot conditions. A fire line was cut using a disc/tiller donated by a local farmer. Forestry arrived to help as well. Units were placed in service at 16:55.

Ridge VFD would like to thank several community members as well as the RVFD Auxiliary and other mutual aid auxiliaries for providing drinking water and rehab to the firefighters on the front line.
