| On Monday, October 16, 2006, the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department visited the St. Michaels School in Ridge, Maryland. It was our first opportunity to show our new Fire Prevention Safety House there. Our crew consisted of Francis Raley Fire Chief, Freda Franklin Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary, James Raley Life Member, Matt Ridgell Fire Prevention Chairman and George Franklin firefighter. Our presentation included the sounds and purposes of smoke and CO 2 detectors, Exit signs, Pull boxes and the proper use of 911 phone calls. We pointed out various potential safety hazards and how to prevent them. We viewed a video of the Fury of Fire and answered many questions of the students. We ended our session by smoking up both rooms and the students participated in finding a safe escape route out a bedroom window, using an escape ladder. They were very attentative and enjoyed our presentation. We handed out fire prevention materials and fire hats to 66 guests. |
