| The family of Joey Titus along with the members of the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary and the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad would like to sincerely thank the community, friends and neighbors who participated in the Blood Drive held in Joey Titus' honor. The May 17th Blood Drive held at the Ridge Fire House had blood donors coming from near and far - from Ridge to Mechanicsville to the 7th District and Hollywood potential donors arrived. Many were surprised to see Joey in attendance when they walked through the door. Fortunately for Joey, the doctors had been able to locate and correct the internal bleeding he was experiencing. However, this would not have been possible if he had not been able to receive blood transfusions to replace what had been lost. Fortunately for Joey, others had given the "Gift of Life" and he was the beneficiary.
The Red Cross began the collection process at 1:00 pm that day as donors began arriving early. Among the crowd were young and old alike along with several first time donors. According to Ann Raley, a volunteer with the Red Cross, this Blood Drive attracted the most blood donors in Southern Maryland since the 9/11 tragedy. Here are the results of the community event.
128 prospective donors arrived
27 donors were deferred (blood pressure, low iron etc.)
20 donors had to leave prior to processing due to time constraints
Of the remaining 81 donors - 77 full units and 4 partial units were obtained.
If you were unable to donate on May 17th, there will be another blood drive held on June 25th from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ridge.
If you were able to donate on May 17th, you will be eligible to donate blood again on August 27th from 2:00 to 6:30 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ridge.
