On June 27, 2007 Ridge Volunteers were called out mutual aid on a second alarm for a 3-story apartment building with heavy smoke showing. The apartments, Queen Anne Park Apts, were seen to be showing smoke around the same time severe storms were rolling through the county.
Chief Raley (Command 4) and Engine 43 responded to the alarm. Crews from Bay District VFD Stations 3 and 9, along with mutual aid from Companies 1 (Leonardtown VFD), 4 (Ridge VFD), 5 (Seventh District VFD), 6 (Second District VFD), 7 (Hollywood VFD), Station 13 (NAS Pax River), Calvert Company 3 (Solomon's VFD) battled to bring the fire under control in about 15 minutes. The crews operated on the scene for just over two hours.
The crew from Engine 43 assisted in securing the utilities, secondary searches and overhaul operations on the third floor.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal reported the roof of the building was struck by lightning during the storm. The strike caused a fire in the attic area which spread across two apartments. Two families were displaced and are being assisted by Red Cross. The estimated damage loss is $400,000.
