| St. Mary's County Commissioners approved an ordinance allowing for a one time property tax credit to install residential fire protection sprinklers in homes where the systems are not required by law. This credit applies to either retrofitting existing homes or installation in a new home.
In November of 2007 the Commissioners approved an ordinance requiring the installation of sprinklers in all new one and two family residential units served by public water.
If the fire sprinkler system is installed in a single family dwelling between February 1, 2008 and February 1, 2011, taxpayers will receive a tax credit of $1500 for installation in new dwellings and $2000 for homeowners retrofitting existing dwellings.
National statistics have proven residential sprinkler systems save lives. Ridge Vol. Fire Dept. encourages citizens to seriously consider installing sprinkler systems in their current or future homes. |
