Engine 44 Training

By Firefighter George Franklin
November 11, 2008

November 12, John Schortemeyer of Singer Associates Fire Equipment, gave a presentation to the members of the Ridge Volunteer Fire Dept. It was a very informative session aimed at explaining all of the features of our new Pierce Velocity Pumper Tanker. Following a classroom discussion, a complete walk around and hands on demonstration of the equipment, bells and whistles were given. We then went to the rear of our quarters and engineers were given the opportunity to pump water and foam. The committee responsible for replacing Engine 41, recommending and acquiring this piece of apparatus has devoted many hours of planning, comparing and negotiating with the manufacturer. The committee members (Chief) Francis J. Raley, (President) John Gatton, Senior Members Scot Best, Charlie Bradburn, L. P. Mercure, John E. Wathen, Life Members Keith Raley, Tony Ridgell and Dickie Wood led by Chairman Senior Member Brian Cooper are to be commended. Gentlemen, our hats are off to all of you for a fine job, well done. We are all very proud of this piece.
