On 4/29, the Ridge Volunteers made a trip to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Lexington Park to educate home schooled children about fire prevention.
During our three hour stay, we educated 29 children, ranging in ages from pre-school to first grade about home fire safety and fire prevention. We also taught them about the importance of staying low and crawling in smoky environments. We showed them a video about smoke detectors. After the video presentation, a gear demonstration was given to students and teachers and questions were answered while students crawled out of the rear bedroom under a simulated fire scenario.
The Ridge VFD crew consisted of Vice President James Raley, Life member Joe Cooper, FF/EMT David Morris, Auxiliary member Mary Wise and Auxiliary life members Snooky Raley and Peggy Vallandingham.
