By Firefighter / EMT-B David Morris
May 22, 2011

At 2304, Rescue Box 4-01 alerted Rescue Engine 42 (Capt. Keister), Tanker 4 (Capt. Hafner), Engine 44 (Chief 4B Mercure) along with Engine 141, Squad 3, Ambulances 496 & 397, Chiefs 4 & 3 and Medic 291 to the area of Point Lookout Road and Old Statehouse Road for the motor vehicle accident with injuries and a vehicle on fire. All units made the response with a total of 24 personnel.

As units were marking up on the air, Safety 4 (Cooper) and Lt 4 (Ridgell) arrived on scene and reported a single vehicle well off with one patient out of the vehicle. Rescue Engine 42, Engine 141 and Squad 3, along with the command units, arrived almost simultaneously advising of a single vehicle on fire. The crews from Engine 141 and the Rescue Engine pulled an inch and a half attack line from Engine 141 and made quick work of the fire in the engine compartment.

After assessment from the ambulance crew, the decision was made to fly the patient to Prince George's Shock Trauma as a Category "C", Priority 2. The rescue and Engine 141 handled the lz in a field adjacent to the accident scene. Trooper 7 arrived and departed without incident.

Shortly after returning to quarters, Local box 4-04 was struck for the residential gas leak on Smith Dr. Rescue Engine 42 (Capt. Hafner) responded within a minute of dispatch with 7 personnel, with Engine 44 (Capt. Keister) and Command 4 (Chief 4B Mercure) following behind with an additional six, along with the rest of the assignment.

Rescue Engine 42 arrived on scene and advised of a two story, single family, nothing evident. The crew from the rescue made an assessment of the situation and determined the source of the odor was coming from an empty kerosene tank. The crew secured the tank and metered the house with negative results. Rescue Engine 42 held themselves only and returned the rest
