By Firefighter / EMT-B David Morris
September 25, 2011

At 2004, Companies 4, 14, Squad 3, Engine 92, Companies 49 & 39 and the medic were alerted to the area of Point Lookout Road and Villa Road (box area 4-03) for the report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Within minutes, Engine 44 (running in place of Rescue Engine 42 which was out of service -- Capt. Keister with 6), Engine 43 (Chief 4B Mercure with 6), Command 4 (Chief 4 Raley), along with Engine 141, Squad 3, Engine 92 and the ambulance companies were on the road.

Lt 19A (Norris) arrived on location first advising that the patient in the vehicle that possibly had the entrapment had been removed by bystanders. Chief 4 arrived on location afterwards, establishing the Point Lookout Road command. Engines 44 and 141 arrived together, with Engine 141 checking a truck at the intersection of Villa and Point Lookout and Engine 44 taking the vehicle with the reported entrapment.

After further assessment, Command held Engines 44, 43, 141 Ambulance 497 and Medic 1. Engine 141's crew determined that a door pop would be needed on the patient in the truck. With this information, Engine 44 repositioned to the truck and prepared for a door pop. Before this could be completed, another plan of attack was implemented, sliding the patient out of the passenger side. The crews from the engines worked together to extricate the patient. After this, the patient was loaded and command was terminated.

Units: Engine 44, Engine 43

Mutual Aid: Engine 141, Squad 3, Engine 92, Ambulances 496, 497, 387, 397, Medic 1
