Tuesday, October 18, 2011 a crew visited St. Michaels School where they took part in a Fire Prevention Week presentation. We talked with the PreK through 4th graders in the fire prevention trailer. The upper classes were instructed in the computer lab. It was a nice sunny fall day. We reached 160 students and all of the teachers. The children received sport bottles stuffed with numerous fire prevention related materials. David Morris demonstrated his turnout gear and explained just what each piece was for and how it protected the firefighter. Joe Cooper explained the inportance of a fire escape plan and illustrated how easily it could be done. He also gave some fire prevention tips about smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. All of this was aimed at "Protecting your family from fire". Our crew consisted of Life member Joe Cooper, Auxiliary life member Peggy Vallandingham, Auxiliary member Mary Wise, Associate member Frieda Franklin, Firefighters David Morris and George Franklin.
